EFFECT OF STRATEGIC PROCUREMENT PLANNING ON THE PERFORMANCE OF FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE MAKURDI, BENUE STATE, NIGERIA

The article explored the effect of strategic procurement planning on organizational performance at the Federal Medical Center, Makurdi, Nigeria, focusing on four key objectives: evaluating the influence of staff competencies, assessing the role of budgetary procedures, investigating the effect of quality specifications, and analyzing the effect of need assessments on organizational performance. The study adopted a correlational survey design. Census of 72 staff members from the Public Procurement Unit and 6 management officials of the hospital were studied. Data was collected via a structured questionnaire and both descriptive and inferential statistical analysis were carried out using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) The findings revealed significant positive correlations between organizational performance and staff competence, budget procedures, quality specifications, and need assessments. Based on these results, the study recommends prioritizing continuous capacity-building initiatives, such as training and certifications, to enhance staff competencies; implementing transparent and structured budgetary processes for accountability and resource optimization; establishing clear and rigorous quality and control standards for all procurement activities; and conducting thorough and systematic needs assessments to align procurement plans with budgetary goals
