EFFECT OF MANAGEMENT PRACTICES ON PERFORMANCE OF PUBLIC PROCUREMENT IN FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTER IN MAKURDI

This study examined the effect of management practices on the performance of public procurement at the Federal Medical Center, Makurdi (FMC), focusing on three key management practices: communication, controlling, and supervision. The study adopted a survey research design. Top management staff, procurement unit, account and finance and internal audit departments of FMC Makurdi formed the population of the study which was 361. Census technique was adopted and all the 361 were used as the sample size for the study. Primary data were collected through self-administered structured questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and multiple regression analysis with the aid of the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 25. Results revealed that communication has a positive and significant effect on performance of public procurement (β = 0. 347, t = 9.799, p < 0.05). Similarly, controlling significantly improves performance of public procurement (β = 0. 402, t = 18.916, p < 0.05). Furthermore, supervision positively influences procurement performance (β = 0. 370, t = 10.469, p < 0.05). Based on these findings, the study concludes that management practices have significant positive effect on performance of public procurement in Federal Medical Center Makurdi, Benue State. The study recommends that public procurement entities enhance communication frameworks, implement advanced monitoring systems, and strengthen supervisory structures to optimize public procurement efficiency and quality of service delivery.
