STAFF TRAINING AND REVENUE GENERATION IN BENUE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICES IN BENUE STATE

This study investigated the effect of staff training of the performance of Revenue generation in Benue Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) in Benue state, Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study included to Investigate the effect of coaching method of staff training on the Performance of Revenue generation in the study area. A survey design was adopted for this study while the population of the study consisted 39 Management, Heads of Departments and unit heads of Benue Internal Revenue Service Makurdi, Benue State. The face validity approach was adopted for the study whereby the competent authorities examined the questionnaire, made relevant corrections which were implemented and was subsequently approved based on the belief that the instrument was appropriate. Construct validity was carried out using factor analysis. Data analysis was done using; mean standard deviation and regression analysis was used for test of hypotheses at 5 % (0.05) significance level. The Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21 was used in the study. Findings revealed that Training has significant effect on the performance of BIRS, Makurdi (P-value .019 < α 0.05). The study therefore had no option than to conclude that Staff training has positive effect on the performance / sustainability of BIRS in Makurdi. Based on findings from the study, it was recommended among others that Management of BIRS should always engage in the training of their staff to improve their performance and sustainability.
